Carbon Removal- Nature Based Solutions

Working with nature to balance emissions.

At McLaren Presentation, we recognise that reducing emissions is not enough on its own. To achieve our Race to Net Zero goals, we also need to actively remove carbon from the atmosphere. Nature based solutions, such as woodland creation, are a proven and effective way to capture and store carbon while supporting biodiversity, improving air quality and strengthening local ecosystems.

The Case for Nature Based Solutions

The UK needs to plant more than 32,000 hectares of new woodland every year to meet national net zero targets by 2050. In Scotland, the Government aims to plant 18,000 hectares annually by 2024, raising woodland coverage from 19 percent to 21 percent of land.

Tree planting on this scale will not only sequester carbon but will also create new habitats, support rural employment and contribute to healthier communities.

Our Commitment

To support the decarbonisation of our economy and our own operations, we have invested in a verified carbon offsetting project in Scotland.

Our approach is to sequester emissions where they are created, which is why we have supported woodland creation in Argyll & Bute, less than 25 miles from our main production sites in Central Scotland.

This initiative will:

  • Capture and store carbon emissions for the long term
  • Enhance biodiversity and create new wildlife habitat
  • Support local communities and sustainable land use
  • Help both McLaren Presentation and our customers reduce their carbon footprint

Responsible Sourcing

Our investment in woodland creation complements our commitment to sourcing responsibly. Since 2017, McLaren has been accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and in 2022 we extended this certification across the full range of products manufactured at our Port Glasgow facilities.

This means our customers can demonstrate their commitment to sourcing packaging that is not only innovative and effective, but also ethical and sustainable.

A Balanced Approach to Net Zero

Nature based solutions are an essential part of our Sustainable. For Life. strategy. By combining emission reductions through renewable energy, eco-design and low carbon manufacturing with carbon removal through woodland creation, McLaren Presentation is working to build a future where packaging both protects products and protects the planet.
