Emissions Avoidance

Investing in low carbon technology.

At McLaren Presentation, we believe packaging production must go beyond circular material use. To truly reduce environmental impact, it is essential to also address the emissions created in the process of manufacturing. That is why we invest in innovative, low carbon technologies that cut greenhouse gas emissions while supporting a circular economy.

Packaging Production Powered by Waste

The paper industry already operates with a largely circular model, but energy requirements in paper production and recycling still create significant emissions. To tackle this, we have invested in a pioneering solution that turns waste into renewable energy.

McLaren holds a significant shareholding in CorrBoard Bioenergy the world’s first waste-to-energy facility fuelled entirely by food and drink waste. This plant produces renewable heat and electricity to power the manufacture of corrugated sheet board, one of our key raw materials.

How it Works

  • More than 25,000 tonnes of organic food and drink waste are diverted from landfill to an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant.
  • The AD process generates biogas, which is burned to produce renewable heat and electricity.
  • This energy powers the manufacture of corrugated sheet board at our neighbouring CorrBoard facility
  • Any surplus electricity generated is exported to the national grid, further reducing emissions beyond our own supply chain.

A Low Carbon Future

Through CorrBoard Bioenergy we are reducing reliance on fossil fuels, lowering the carbon footprint of paper-based packaging and demonstrating how waste can be transformed into a resource.

This investment reflects our Sustainable. For Life. commitment and plays an important role in helping McLaren Presentation reduce emissions, avoid waste and move closer to our Race to Net Zero targets.
