Design For Sustainability

Created with experience. Inspired by innovation. Sustainable. For Life.

At McLaren Presentation, we understand that packaging must do more than simply protect and present your product. It must also demonstrate your commitment to sustainability. Our design approach combines commercial insight, technical expertise and responsible choices to create sustainable packaging solutions that elevate your brand while reducing environmental impact.

Sustainable Packaging Design

Sustainable design considers natural resources and their use throughout the full product lifecycle. Every design decision has an impact, from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing, use and end-of-life recycling.

By embedding sustainability into the creative process, we help brands design packaging that is:

  • Circular and recyclable
  • Efficient in its use of materials
  • Capable of re-use or repurposing
  • Manufactured with recycled or renewable inputs

Integrating these principles into packaging design strengthens your environmental credentials and supports your journey toward net zero.

Design Criteria for Sustainability

Sourcing

  • Use of virgin raw materials from certified, sustainable sources
  • Use of renewable materials from managed supply chains
  • Incorporation of recycled fibres and materials wherever possible

Effective Use of Resources

  • Selecting raw materials with lower embedded emissions
  • Reducing overall material use without compromising performance
  • Avoiding unnecessary components and complexity

Design for Recycling

  • Using materials that are widely recyclable with existing technology
  • Ensuring components can be easily separated for recycling
  • Selecting finishes and adhesives that do not compromise recyclability

Measuring Carbon Footprint

Improvement begins with measurement. We accurately calculate the carbon footprint of our packaging, capturing Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions across the full lifecycle.

  • Scope 1 and 2: Sub-metering of key production equipment provides precise data on energy use in our conversion processes, allowing us to calculate associated emissions.
  • Scope 3: Our detailed database of carbon emissions tracks the impact of raw materials, transport of inputs to our sites, and delivery of finished packaging to our customers.

This transparency allows us to design packaging that not only meets brand requirements but also aligns with climate targets.

Eco-Design for Net Zero

By integrating eco-design principles into every stage of packaging development, we enable brands to:

  • Reduce emissions across supply chains
  • Improve recyclability and circularity
  • Use renewable and recycled content responsibly
  • Progress toward net zero emissions
